What am I working on right now?

I am knitting myself a hat! Now, I already have a drawer full of knit and crochet hats at home, and many of them are ones that I made for myself before. But sometimes you just need a change, or a little something new. That drawer is due for a purge. And I got this lovely and interesting yarn for Christmas. My dad ordered it for me from this etsy shop. It’s just the kind of self-striping hand-spun yumminess that makes a perfect knit hat. And since the yarn was my gift, the hat is going to be for me too. I have declared it!

I’ve completed four scrapghans since this past fall, and I don’t think I’ve posted pictures of any of them here. So I have come to remedy that! Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of one of them, and the pictures I have of two of the others are of unfinished projects. Still, I am proud of my scrapghan output and I would like to share them with you. Two of the four were given as just-because gifts, and the other two were christmas gifts. And now almost everyone in my family has received one of my scrapghans!

I am especially happy with the blue/gray one above. It was part of my experiment with sorting the scrap yarn into colors, and this one had a particularly lovely result. Also, the gray yarn that I used as a background yarn was a really soft cotton, which made the completed blanket extra snuggly. That one was sent to my friend L in NYC, and it makes me happy to think of it keeping her warm.

On a beading blog. I thought it was really cool that they asked me to be featured, since beading isn’t my primary form of crafting. But I do use beads in a lot of my creations, and I do enjoy making fiber jewelry, so I was able to find plenty to say in response to the interview questions.

The one thing I forgot to mention in the interview is that beads also make excellent beady little eyes.

I am very proud of my most recent treasury that I’ve curated on etsy. Please come take a look! It’s a celebration of the popularity on etsy of photographing products against a backdrop of weathered barnwood. I did accidentally include one seller twice, but that’s ok because I think it turned out just great.

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while! I have recently started working the night shift at work, and it is taking a good bit of adjusting to get used to the new sleep schedule and whatnot. Luckily, it does allow me a lot of knitting time at work, because I’m not constantly on the phone like I would be during the day shift. Here’s a project that I just finished that I’ve been working on during some of my night shifts: shawl of many colors.

Yummy Favorites!

I like to use the word yummy to describe non-edible things. Yummy colors and combinations of colors, yummy scents. That’s what I’m talking about here. Yummy etsy.

I would like to introduce you to a seller I have been drooling over today: HastingsHomestead. I had some of this seller’s bags in my favorites already, and then today I noticed that they also have beeswax candles in vintage glass containers, so then I had to add the whole shop to my favorites. Everything is nicely photographed, which is always a good feature for an etsy shop. Plus this person obviously has a good eye for fabrics (or in other words they have a very similar taste to mine in color and pattern). That’s the same as good taste, right?

And speaking of yummy, there isn’t anything much yummier to smell than beeswax candles. Mmmmmmm, I can smell it just looking at it! Mmmmm!

They also have quilts and very cute bibs and pillowcase dresses for the kiddos. And here is one of the tote bags that I have been admiring. Orange and green isn’t a color combo that everyone likes, but personally I find it very cheerful.

Sir Scrapghan the Sixth!

This one is twin-bed sized, knitted in ribs, with one strand of scrap yarn and one strand of some other yarns I had large amounts of (the green/white/orange/purple sections). It has been delivered to my brother K, and is living with him at a state park for the summer. Yay!

S had to stand on the couch and hold the blanket up so we could get the whole thing in the picture.

And I have already collected enough yarn for the next one, which is going to my best friend L. I got really excited about it, and bought tons of scrap yarn on etsy and from recycle north, plus L sent me some to use. I think I actually have too much, honestly, because L requested that hers be throw-blanket sized, so it won’t take as much as a bed-sized one.

I am doing something different with this next one, and I hope it will turn out well. Instead of rolling all the yarn together into one massive scrap ball, I have been sorting it by color. So now I have six scrap balls: red, green/yellow, pink/orange, purple/brown, blue/gray/black/white, and variegated. I think I will use the biggest two, the purple and the blue, for L’s throw.
